How do I see or speak to a doctor?

At the Strand we have always tried to be proactive with regards to patient access. Over the last few years we have constantly reviewed our appointment system and made changes in-line with patient feedback. On average our Duty team deal with over 150 patient contacts a day meaning we are working beyond suggested regulations, therefore on occasions we have needed to ask patients with non urgent problems to call us back the next day, equally we are aware that booking a routine appointment can have its challenges.

In order to address this, we have met with our patient group, staff and invested in a new system called KLINIK. This online triage system will ensure that patients are treated equitably, it will also identify urgent cases that need to be dealt with that day, cases that are classed as routine will continue to be dealt with swiftly, but not necessarily that day.

Our reception team will be trained on how to use KLINIK so that they can go talk through the form and help patients that do not have access to a computer or have a condition that means it is not possible to complete the form, meaning every contact with the surgery receives the same level of high quality triage.

Home Visits

If possible patients should make their way to the Surgery to see their GP or Health Professional. This is because for every home visit a GP or Nurse makes they could see several patients in the surgery, so if you are mobile please come into the surgery to be seen.

In cases of severe illness, infirmity, or emergencies, the Paramedic Practitioner or Nurse will visit the patient at home. If you have transport problems please consider contacting Guildcare.

Please bear in mind that home visits are only for patients who are not able to attend the surgery for serious reasons.

If you are too ill to attend surgery please call the surgery before 10.00am if possible, as rounds have to be planned. Please give our staff some idea of your symptoms so we can judge the urgency of the call. The clinician may phone before visiting to assess the urgency of the visit.

To request a home visit please call the practice on 01903 243351.
